What do you do when your waer heater goes out, floods your basement (ie. soapmaking workshop)?

Well, I am finding out the answers to this tragic problem that can strike Indies at anytime... THE HARD WAY!

Sunday night it happened to us. There was over 4 inches of water in the basement, when my husband woke up to an "only cold water" bath in our 100+ year old farmhouse and went to check if we were out of propane again. Nope, not propane... the water heater rusted out, sprung a leak and flooded our basement (the place where I have my soapmaking workshop and soap… Continue

Farmer's Markets a wonderful sales tool!

Hi all,

Well, I don't blog as often as I should or even as often as I want to, but trying to get in the habit.

My business has had a influx of new sales ideas and opportunities this spring/summer.

We decided to join a much larger farmer's market this year than we have used in the past. Falls Park Farmer's Market in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is a thriving Farmer's Market that has been in existance for 93 years! WOW!

On an average weekend between 400… Continue

Hello Fellow Indies,

I am Rebecca Hunter, owner and founder of Pearlcreek Goat Milk Co. (My wonderful husband Robert is on-board as a mostly "silent' partner as he forked out the intial start up expenses and makes the occasional soap or lip balm display in his woodworking shop and sometimes watches the children while I participate in craft fairs and farmers markets.) I am the mother of two young sons, Charlie (almost 6 years old and has autism) and Henry (almost 4 years old, he's… Continue

Hi Rebecca, sorry it took me this long to respond.
Thank you so much for taking the time and for all the great advice. My son started preschool 3 weeks ago. Thank God he loves it. They Iep was ok, they had it ready when I got there but I agreed with most of it. It wasn't very specific but Im not sure if that is because its just preschool or because they don't know him very well yet.
I got my son diagnosed when he was 2. Its our diagnosis anniversary this month,... its hard.
I love the idea about the pecs on the magnet paper! thats genius Im going to try it. My son used to use pecs very well for 4 months and then he stopped and doesn't want to do it again. I found myself taking the pictures away because he destroys them (together with all his wooden toys)... we are starting over teaching him, which seems a little pointless because its like he knows what to do but doesn't want to.
Did you get the service dog for your son? I 've been looking into it myself.
I hope you and your family (and business) are doing well.

Hi Rebecca,

I've just realized that I don't think I actually responded to your last message. I had it minimized on my comp along with other about 10 pages. So it's evaporated from my mind.
All I can say that your life is FULL and that's an understatment. Sometimes I even wonder what is better to live with a big piece of land with all that going on, or like me in small condo where you feel claustrofobic, but not really much to do..... And my mind swings in both directions as fast as the wind blows....

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi. I am occupying myself with Twilight books these days. My sister was raving about them, but I was resisting due to the fact that I am far from being a teen to go nuts about it. It took me a year to break down, so a week ago I actually went ahead and splurged on all 4 boooks. I have to say that IT IS a very delicious reading. So that's what I am doing before I go see the New Moon. Man, I wish I was a teen again, so I would feel comfortable behiving like one...hehehe

It is nice to meet you too!

How awesome that you traded products for jewelry! I totally understand about never getting time to yourself. I have two little girls and they keep me hopping at all times. The only time I have been alone in the last 7 years was when I went to a family funeral. My husband and girls stayed home to run the business... well the girls didn't run the business of course, but they think they are helping LOL.

It is so nice to meet you!

Hi Rebecca,

Nice to hear from you. OMG, how can you even deal with all that zoo??? I have a king size bed where I sleep with my hubby and Yorkie (that weight 5 lbs), and somethimes it feels like not enough space..... Man, you deserve a medal.
I've just looked up your new website. You have soooo many products. When in the world do you get time to make so many products, work on your business, play with your children, take care of goats....... my head is spinning. Do you ever sleep?

I feel like I work a lot, but it doesn't seem like I can accomplish THAT much. Anyway, about the pumps. I've bought them from ED Luce packaging company. Right here.
But they are more expensive then I was selling. As for bottles I was buying them in Alpha packaging in bulk, look up on the box, I think there is their web address printed. I don't remember it from the top of my head.

How is the doggie feeling that you managed to run over?

Oh noooo, poor little puppy. My first dog got hit by a car years ago, I couldn't get over it for years. Poor thing wasn't even a year old. Yep, I agree your life is never dull. Man...so much to do. If I had to take care of so many things, I definitely would get on some type of substance abuse for energy boost hehehe...

I am glad you've received the box already. See how easy to trip over it. It's always in your face. Well, in my small condo it was, at least.

Have a super weekend.

Rebecca, your life is entertaining for sure. To get up 4.30 to go to the market would consider to be a bravery stunt in my life. You truly deserve a medal.
I was laughing about your description about your hair color - the color of Waimariner. And what made it particularly funny is the fact that I own that breed of a dog. Her name is Prada.

I like the way you write, it's like reading a book, very descriptive and entertaining.
Not so much is happening on my side. We took our son for his first hair cut yesterday. He is 14 months old. I have quite the opposite problem with the weather here. It's too darn hot. So I don't feel like hanging out outside too much. Thank God the cold front moved our way a little bit. You can at least breathe better today. Hopefully it will stay here longer then 2 days.
Oh well, it's Sunday, will go crash in front of TV. No work today. I am inforcing it on myself :-)

Wow, it sounds like you have your hands full. Kids, and goats, and dogs, and husband, and moving, and growing your business...... You are a very strong woman. Not sure if I would be able to handle all that. :-)

Have a super weekend.

Shipped Delivery conf # 420573249102785091401238772253.
In the end I had to use USPS. I went to UPS to complete the shipping label and when I entered the dimensions of the box, the price went to $49 suddenly. What a rip off. I hate their system. So your box will be coming by USPS. Look out for it.
Thank you.
