Did I mention that we got a barn cat?

The mice were running off with too much goat food, leaving too many nests, and otherwise terrorizing us ... flashing throughout the day and night. Brazen little hussies. Chewing parade halters and scaring the barn help is not nice! They had to go!

Mr. Dillon came from a friend's home who had just had their first grand baby and the cats were too much. Hey, I understand just 'too much.' I was happy to have him. Thank you.

His name is Mr. Dillon 'cause he's in charge of… Continue

Our new barn frig broke on Christmas Eve

Darn, don't you hate it when you purchase a new appliance only to have it STOP working when the freezer is FULL of food?!

It had worked for the past month but all of a sudden it decided to stop working. Luckily I checked it and was able to relocate all the meat so no food was lost.

Since it's new, we were still under warranty. The service man arrived the next day, Christmas Eve, thank you very much.

As we escorted him to the uninsulated barn, he asked one question… Continue

Freezing temperatures, internal parasites, and our goats

For the most part goats handle freezing temperatures quite well. That is, if they have shelter, food, water, and are healthy. Our focus for the past several months has been to boost their immune system, reduce their internal parasites as much as possible, and put a bit of weight on them for added insulation. Next we added a few heat lamps and several large dog houses so they could huddle together and keep each other warm.

So far they look fine. Our efforts are paying off. BUT ...… Continue

Production schedule updates

Throughout the holidays we had time opportunities to evaluate our product lines. Since we're all back, setting the production schedule will be one of the first things to do.

Getting into the swing of things

We had a super holiday. All of us rested, played, worked, completed household projects, ate ate ate, and took a nap or two. Probably the best part was having most of the family together again so we could get caught up with each others lives. We all live at such a fast pace (like you).

Hi Pat,

Thankyou for your message. I make GM CP milk soaps and in the future I would like to make GM cream soap. I have got some good feedback on my GM soap, so this is encouraging me to try different things with it. What I would give to have access to raw GM to soap with (instead of refrigerated store stuff)!

I would be extremely interested in learning about any other bath and body care items that can be made with GM. Lotion? Facemasks? Soaks etc.

I don't get much a chance to login to the Indie site, so please don't be offended if I don't get back to you quickly.

Yours in soaping.

Thank you so much for your welcome Pat. Everyone has been so gracious and I look forward to chatting and getting help with my questions. We have some soap and candlemakers here but the craft is now being taught in a way that would encourage growth. Have you been an Indie long?

Ohhhhh I understand those traps. They blind-side you. A different Friday would work. I will be working at the Badin Heritage Festival on the 18 and 19th of September. I'm working festivals this year, for the first time.

What about the 25th? How long do you think it'll take you to get here? If you're on the south side of Charlotte, plan on more than 1.5 hours travel time. Say you arrive at 3:30ish, play with goats til 4:30ish, drive home will be in the Friday evening traffic. Trust me, Highway 24/27 is a parking lot at that time.

A weekend afternoon could be safer for your driving with your youngsters. Stanly County is a beautiful place. Think about a weekend. Let's keep it simple and safe.

Would that work? Sorry for the confusion!

I'm looking forward to your visit. You'll be our first with the new landscaping. ohhhhhhhhhhhhh we look soooooooo good. I kept thinking I could 'get to it... '. Well, years later ... didn't happen. Now that we can get to the wondows we can get new screening. If it isn't one thing, it's another.

Monday or Thursday would be the best. Tuesday or Wednesday the worst. Thursday is iffy.

Please wear shoes that can be washed. Goats poop -- all the time. We have towels to sit on so the goats can come to you. They're curious creatures and want to check out any and all newbies. Please bring your camera. We'll have some fun! CU sometime during the week of August 24.

Pat,

I'm thrilled! I will check my schedule for the week of August 24 in the hopes that will work. Is any day and time that week best for you?

I will make sure my kids don't chase your goats!

I'm excited and thanks!
