Pat,

Matt is correct in that they have wonderful labels already pre-cut to fit the .15 lip balm tubes.  I personally use their weatherproof - the white, clear and crystal clear when I have lip balm label orders from customers.

I personally haven't used Maestro - so I can not comment on that.

My Company, Designer Label Gal offers a low cost graphic design service to help with layout/design.  I can provide the finished template for you to use and print yourself (which you might be able to upload it into Maestro), and/or I am also a low cost short run printer.  I will be more than happy to chat with you regarding your project.

Hi Pat,

If you are looking a low cost solution for labeling lip balm I would suggest you take a look at our lip balm label section if you don't see the size you need check out our standard label size list.  If you need label material that is durable and smudge resistant try our weatherproof label materials

I know that printing labels is a concern for you, the good news is that with your label order you get access to our Maestro Label Designer label software.  Maestro is really easy to use so you can create the perfect label, but if you need assistance or someone to help you troubleshoot then customer service is willing help anytime you need assistance over the phone (888)575-2235 or email support@onlinelabels.com

Hope this info helps you on your labeling journey!

Thanks,

Matt Hamilton

Hi Pat,

Try Onlinelabels.com or Avery.com. They have a variety of sizes for different container sizes.

I currently use Vista Print for my labels.  I like it becuase it is fairly simple to use but is very limited in the label options.  For example, I am looking for labels to use with making lip balm.  I have seen several lip balm labels out there but then would I need to design the label myself on my computer and print it?  My frustration is that in the past whenever I would print my own labels somehow they always ended up out of balance and part of the printing would be cut off.  I have just started my own business an it is just me doing all of the work.  My finances are limited as well as my time since I still have to work full time "at that other job" to pay the bils.  Any recommendations?

Hi Sherri,

I have come to the exact point in my business that you are discussing here. I can no longer spend my precious time...sometimes entire days, ugh!, just on designing and printing labels. I have contacted a local printing, but, he will not print in the small quantities I need without charging many, many times more than what I could print them for myself. I have been reading your posts and have viewed the pics of some of the labels you've done. I would love to connect with you to discuss how you could help me.

All the best,
Robin

I did not receive notice again that there was activity here. Not sure why - but anyway. I agree with Joann. It is worth the investment to find a professional to help you with portions of your business that becomes burdensome. The end result will out way the costs.

There are many designers out there. I assure you there are ones that will provide you with a design that you will be happy with.

Its like anything else, you have to shop around a bit to find the "right" one. Just like you shop around for the "right" ingredients, packaging, all the other components. Or even your family doctor for that matter.

There is someone out there with the right skills sets, pricing, etc, that is there for you to help your products stand out and represent you and your company in the best way possible.

It just might take a little time to find them - but its worth it once you find them.

There comes a point of diminishing return when designing labels yourself. Even it it looks like it costs more initially it may be worth considering a professional. If your products look amateurish then you are probably missing sales anyway.
The extra expense will pay for itself in increased sales.
Use your skills and expertise where they are needed and use an expert in aresa outside your comfort zone.
Happy Packaging!

Dusty,

I agree with you. The issues you raised has also been my biggest challenge. I want my labels to stand out. I don't want them to look cartoonish or child like and I have defintely seen way to many labels with borders, of all kinds.

I have looked at alot of sites that have label design's and they just didn't knock me over with what they offer in terms of label design. My other issue is if I chose to let someone else design my labels I want branding rights solely which I know will cost but it's better than someone having a say so when it comes to using the design.

My biggest challenge is not the labels themselves but positioning the content and graphics on the labels, or should I say, designing labels. It seems many products have somewhat the same design, that it’s hard to set my products apart from the rest, when it comes to labels. If I haven’t seen one label with borders, I’ve seen a hundred. The same goes for colored text. I purchased a soap and cosmetic labeling book to gain a better understanding the proper way to layout the content, but I could really use something for designing labels. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for designing labels?
