Enjoy Your Life! Build Your Business! Have Your Way!

I am interested in learning what you like and use for your hair.

Do you use many hair care products?

What are your favorite hair products, what do they do and why do you like them?

Do you use shampoo and moisturizer only?

What type of hair do you have?

Any additional comments on hair products?

Thanks for your comments in advance,

I try to use the most natural products available but I have been disappointed with a lot of the conditioners so I just use Burt's Bees Grapefruit shampoo and a vinegar rinse sometimes.
Melissa, I hear that a lot about the disappointment with the natural shampoos and conditioners. I have tried many on the market. Compared to natural skin care products there really isn't that many to choose from. We need a good selection of natural hair care products as each individuals hair is so unique. As a natural formulator, shampoos and conditioners are one of the harder products to create with the raw materials available. Since the industry is moving so quickly there are now some great ingredients to work with to make good natural hair care products.
I'm not sure that we're allowed to promote our business on Indie, so with that said, I use my own formulations and am quite pleased with results: softer, fuller hair; less breakage + a scent that sends me to heaven. I use an infused vinegar formula as a rinse after shampooing, alternating with an herbal hair tea. I don't make shampoos, I use an organic one that I purchase in the health food store. When I want "a deep conditioning treatment" that I leave on overnight, infused oils with tropical butters.
Hope this helps,
Elise

Elise, thanks for the great suggestions. When you use your own formulations that says you have a good product. I also use my own formulations. Not too many people are familiar with an hair tea/rinse. It is my favorite hair care product I use.
My favorite hair care product is bar soap. It's just soooo handy for washing hair. Maybe I'd think differently if I had "hard" water or hair as long as most women's. Even from non-superfatted soap, a little fatty acid is left behind as a conditioner. Only drawback: hair embedded in the soap.
Robert, thanks for your comments. Several men have told me they use the bar soap I make on their hair and body. My hair is longer and it doesn't work as well with longer hair. Another pro, bar soap is a lot cheaper than shampoo.
That last statement is a good generaliz'n for solid vs. water-based products generally. It's not always possible to produce a product in both forms, but when it is, with the liquid so many factors add costs: greater weight & volume, water-tight containers, preservation.
I have several hair products that I like to use from different companies.

I'm African American with naturally curly (3B -C type) hair. So are my two daughters, thought my oldest daughter's hair is much thicker and longer than mine. I love a shampoo bar called "Juicy" that I buy from Karen's Body Beautiful. It's a great moisturizing shampoo bar for our curly hair (it is also a good body cleanser for dry/eczema skin, which is a plus). She also makes a leave-in conditioner call "Hair Nectar", which we all just love, love, love. Nothing untangles my daughter's thick, thick, thick curls like it. No pulling, screaming, and tears when I use it. For styling our curls, I like to use either plain Mango butter on freshly washed hair and then twist hair, or l like Darcy's Botanical s Natural Coils Curling Jelly or Peach Kernel Hydrating Milk. Both define and hydrate our curls.
Thanks Tieast for your beautiful description of your ritual for your daughters' hair and your hair. Hair should be nurtured and lovingly cared for. It goes to show the many different hair types and how hair care products can promote easily managed and beautiful hair.
