Enjoy Your Life! Build Your Business! Have Your Way!

In the middle part of 2010 I decided to give Twitter a real go. At first I found it frustrating and time consuming to Tweet and respond, and keep track of followers, and try to remember to thank them,etc..

Not to mention to actually come up with something unique to Tweet about without appearing too spammy and annoying, which would result in "unfollows".

But I kept at it. Then I gathered up some tools, which has made life much easier! At first I used a program with a monthly fee, but found it limited, and I didn't need another monthly fee! So I kept searching.

Then I found TweetAdder, a one time cost software that you download, Mac and Windows compatible.  It was only $55, which I thought a very small investment for advertising. It has paid for itself over and over again! Every morning I spend about 15 minutes scheduling my tweets. Spacing them out is no problem with TweetAdder. I can also automatically follow people based on certain keywords like: beauty, makeup, teen, fashion, etc...

But it gets better. I can also use TweetAdder to unfollow those who don't follow me back after 3 days. This keeps your follow to follower ratio balanced.

Plus I can set up auto replies to thank all my followers! There's more tools that I haven't even used. But you get the idea.

Twitter Tip: give your followers a reason to click or retweet. A sale, a special, coupon, new colors, a beauty article (doesn't have to be yours), social media news, funny stuff your kid said, stupid stuff you
did this week. Mix the personal light hearted stuff with info, news, and
of course links to your products/blog. Then you don't risk boring them
to death. A retweet can be worth its weight in gold. Especially if
someone with like 25k followers retweets it. Its also a plus to engage those
with mega followers in a convo. Everytime they reply with @laminerals
their followers see it too!

All my effort is truly paying off. Twitter is free. And is now my #2 referrer, directly under my video/online ads (which I pay for obviously). Of course my goal is for Twitter to supersede my paid advertising!

Just wanted to share.

Disclosure: I am a TweetAdder affiliate. It's the only program I've bothered to sign up with as an affiliate, and only did so after giving it a full test run :)

Great post and I signed up for TweetAdder under Lori's advice. I used Seesmic for a while and I had automatic 'thank you' notes set up and everything. Then Seesmic disappeared from my computer! Really, one day I couldn't find the program that I'd installed. So, I downloaded another version of Seesmic and got it up and running again.

Then my friend Lori told me about TweetAdder. I'm still setting it up and I'm building my list of posts to get started. I actually posted my first tweet with this program last night. Great way to start the new year!

Thanks for letting me know about the broken/terminated link. I fixed it :)

Yes I did:) Best solution is to mix it up. Make some of your tweets interesting, funny, enticing, or suspenseful. Doesn't always have to lead to YOUR site, or be about your industry. I tweet humorous things, links to social media news, Consumer tips, Beauty blogger tips, DIY recipes etc...Iv'e found its pretty easy to find a lot of resources with twitter buttons that will auto generate a tweet with a link. Then I copy and paste that to Tweet Adder for later. Book mark some good sites that you want to use again.

Keep in mind it's not just about instant traffic or sales, it's about developing a following, and getting ReTweeted (RT) by others. It's also about engaging in a convo. I always try to reply to any @ mentions. Might be a day later, but I reply.

P.S. Contests get a LOT of attention if they are held by a popular blogger. I used Sweeps4Bloggers for a contest, which generated a lot of traffic, tweets, and sales. There were hundreds of entrants to the contest.

Ditto to everything Lori said! It does take time. One of my other MMU friends helped me get started with Twitter. I've only recently started putting more effort into it and I thought it was a miracle when I had 200 followers. I'm still not a Twitter Pro like Lori and other's I've met but it is the least expensive and effective marketing around.

I had trouble thinking of things to post but it gets easier as you develop a network of followers and friends because you can see the patterns in what they are talking about and sharing. I share links on natural beauty, natural hair, fashion, fashion industry, makeup application, natural ingredients, vegetarian and vegan food recipes, DIY skin care recipes, eco friendly stuff, women in business, inspirational stories, inspirational pictures, culture, ethnicity, diversity, global news and such. So, when I include all of those things, there is a ton of info. out there that I can share with a link and and introduction. I'm going to have my first Twitter giveaway later this week.

Anyway Sam, you can do it and it gets easier as you go.
