Enjoy Your Life! Build Your Business! Have Your Way!

I attended a green networking event last night and was unexpectedly called upon to present my business to the group (of Harvard alums, no less).  I fumbled (or mumbled) through and realized that I should have had a polished introduction under my belt.  How have others conquered this simple but very important step?

Hiya, Maggie...

Well done on rising to such a challenge. It's not easy to stand up in front of a room of people on any ordinary day, but at the drop of a hat with nothing prepared? Oh, my word... well done, girl! Even better is the fact that you've recognized a weak spot within yourself when representing your business. Way to lead, Maggie. Way. To. Lead.

I do running commentaries when I'm working in my workshop making the products. I just talk to the room like it's full of people, giving a blow by blow account of what I'm doing. I talk ingredients, I talk about when my business first started, I talk about my products, I just talk talk talk... to the empty room. When you do this day after day after day, it becomes you... and talking to a full room at the drop of a hat becomes something you just take in your stride. After all... it's what you're doing every day.

Hope this helps.

Reach out. Make friends. Let's lift each other.

That's a great idea!  I also made a list of bullet points that I posted in my office so I could subconsciously memorize key points.  Now I'm looking forward to trying it out somewhere.

Maggie

Love your tip Susan.  I am going to try that out.  I do have a small elevator pitch, but it is always good to work and practice it out.
