According to the Organic Trade Association, sales of organic food and non-food products grew by 17.1% in 2008. Sales of organic non-food products (like personal care products, organic fibers and pet foods) grew by 39.4%, for a total of $1.648 billion in sales.
Not surprisingly, everyone wants to use the word "organic" on the personal care products labels, and this training webinar will help you know how and when you can do that within the bounds of the the USDA's National Organic Program (NOP).
On this webinar, organic products expert Gay Timmons, President of Oh, Oh Organic, Inc. will join us to share her wisdom on the topic. Gay Timmons began work as the first American woman to manage vessel operations on the Oakland/San Francisco docks, working in international traffic management and ingredient sales. Participating in the organic industry for 20 years covering certification, lobbying, and as a consumer/activist, she has also been a producer and marketer of organic ingredients and an advocate for regulatory protection for organic producers and consumers since 1991. In 2000 she founded Oh, Oh Organic, Inc., a company committed to the development and delivery of sustainable agricultural ingredients for the cosmetic and personal care industries. She served as Chair of the California Organic Products Advisory Committee, on that committee an on the board of CCOF for eleven years. She was a founding member of OASIS and serves on their board. Gay graduated from UC Davis and lives with her two daughters in Los Gatos, CA.
Gay's depth of experience and knowledge will be extremely valuable, so you can be assured that you are using the term, "organic" in an appropriate way.
(For IBN members who know little about the NOP program, you should listen to our audio seminar with Kayla Fioravanti, co-owner of Essential Wholesale, a certified organic facility. You can listen to that seminar at this link. Scroll down to the audio for 11/25/08. Also, read this blog post on Essential Wholesale's blog.)
