2. HANDMADE BEAUTY TRIVIA QUESTION ~ Last week's winner was Suzanne Buckles of El Cajon, California. Suzanne won a $10 gift certificate to the HBN member business of her choice!
LAST WEEK'S QUESTION: In 1877, a St. Louis woman was admitted to the hospital, her arms paralyzed from the elbows down. It was later determined that she had been regularly painting her skin with lead contained in a whitening cream made by George W. Laird Co. The Laird company advertised that the product made men exclaim, "why dearest, your shoulders have quite recovered their milky whiteness -- thanks to Laird's ___________." Another Laird promotional brochure claimed, "with this essential, a lady appears handsome, even if her features are not perfect."
LAST WEEK'S ANSWER: Bloom of Youth
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: A berry that is native to China yields a pulp that is rich in vitamins A, C, E and beta-carotene. Said to actually regenerate and slow the skin's aging process, the pulp from this berry is a bright orange-ish color and is extracted from the berry by use of carbon dioxide.
Be the first to correctly provide the common and botanical names of this berry and win an autographed copy of "Making Aromatherapy Creams & Lotions" by Donna Maria! Read contest rules at www.handmadebeauty.com/htns_Newsletter.htm
3. HANDMADE BEAUTY PRODUCT REVIEW by Donna Maria
~Lavender Peppermint Body Vinegar by Scents of Balance. 8 oz. ~ $10.00
If you're looking for a refreshing summertime treat, you might want to stop by Scents of Balance and pick up one of their Lavender Peppermint Body Vinegars. With glycerin, organic rosemary and elderflowers, this product is a really great body splash. The lavender and peppermint oils are nicely blended with just a touch of rosemary (and I suspect some other secrets!) Summertime has the perfect weather for the product because it's not heavy, yet leaves my skin feeling lightly moisturized. Because my skin is so dry, I'd need more than this for winter, but it's very refreshing just the way a summertime splash should be. It also contains apple cider vinegar so it makes a great facial toner, balancing the pH of my skin naturally. I've used this product quite a bit over the past several weeks and its versatility as a splash, toner and moisturizer can't be beat. Scents of Balance products can be purchased as www.scentsofbalance.com.

5. SKINFORMATION ~ Helping You Care For Your Skin
Today's Aromatic Beauty Food Recipe contains a nutritious vegetable oil which is "tops" (pun intended) at nourishing and soothing your skin. Everyone knows that carrots are good for your body ... lots of beta-carotene and vitamins to feed your machine. But did you know that carrots produce an oil that works wonders for your skin?
Heliocarrot oil is the result of the soaking of carrots in oil (often olive or canola) to produce an orange colored oil that is rich in vitamins A and D. It's pure luxury for your skin ... use it in lotions, creams and any skin care product that should be especially nutritious. In "Making Aromatherapy Creams & Lotions," I use it in Punch Lines Facial Cream and Golden Flowers Cream. If you have dry and/or itchy skin conditions, heliocarrot could be your ticket to more supple, itch-free skin!
6. AROMATIC BEAUTY FOOD RECIPE ~ Vita-Lips
This blend of simple, easy to find ingredients can be made in just minutes and will soothe and protect your delicate lips. The heliocarrot oil may add a teensy orange tint ... the virgin coconut oil adds the light yet heavenly scent of coconuts. It's pretty, easy, fragrant, natural, handmade and effective ... can Estee Lauder top that?!!? I don't think so!!
Ingredients
1 ounce beeswax (you can use refined or unrefined)
1.2 ounces virgin coconut oil (you can substitute other oils but you will not get the luscious natural coconut scent)
1/2 ounce heliocarrot oil
Blending Procedure
Melt beewswax and virgin coconut oil together in a double boiler. Remove from heat once the beeswax is nearly fully
melted. Stir with a popsickle stick to mix. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes, then add the heliocarrot oil. Stir to
ensure the mix. Pour into tubes or pots. Allow to cool a bit, then label. The mixture will set up quickly and you will
be smoothing it all over your lips (and any other dry body parts) in just minutes!
Today's recipe was submitted by HBC reader Melody Upham of Rainbow Meadow, supplier of essential oils for aromatherapy, cosmetics & pharmaceuticals. www.rainbowmeadow.com
~ Submit your recipe to recipes@handmadebeauty.com. If we use it in an upcoming issue, we'll credit you!!
