5. BEAUTY BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT -- HANDMADE BEAUTY AT WASHINGTON, DC'S, SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION!
Congratulations to Sunflower Soapworks & Sundries for landing the gift shop account at Washington, DC's, historic Smithsonian Institution!! Sue Reeb, owner of Sunflower, says, "Believe it or not, it was easy. The managers visited my booth in January at the Washington Gift Show. They spent a lot of time sniffing things, and even more time asking me to lower my wholesale prices. I held the line and they left. Four hours later, they came back and we made a deal. I wish every account could be so easy!!"
Sue has been making handmade soap since 1989. In 1997, she started Sunflower Soapworks & Sundries and now sells a variety of soaps, lotions, salts and body oils at shows and from her Web site, http://www.freeyellow.com:8080/members/sunflowersoap/. A primary base in her soaps is, of course, sunflower oil. After receiving relentless customer requests, in January, Sue added a goat's milk soap to her line. Today, Nanny's Milk & Oats bar with goat's milk, bitter almond essential oil and oatmeal is her most popular item. Nanny's Milk & Oats sells for $3.95 for 4 ounces. Two complementary products are the Almond Mineral Bath and the Almond Hand Lotion. Says Sue, "Together, they make a great combination gift set." Sue says that she has been so busy filling orders that she hasn't yet had a chance to put Nanny's Milk & Oats on her Web site.
